The Nashville Metropolitan Transit Authority provides public transportation
services to citizens and visitors in Nashville-Davidson County by offering
more than 40 bus routes, including three which travel outside of the county
through a contract with the Regional Transportation Authority.
A five-member Board of Directors appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the
Metro Council establishes policies regarding the operation of the MTA and
approves its budget.
The chief executive officer, appointed in January 2002, reports to the Board
of Directors. The CEO is responsible for managerial oversight and is the
agency's only Metro government employee. Other personnel such as the bus
drivers, mechanics, supervisors, and others are employees of the Davidson
Transit Organization, a private, non-profit organization that is responsible
for all employment activities.
